A Bronx man is free after spending 11 years in prison for a crime he says he didn't commit, but his fate remains uncertain.
A judge recently vacated Michael Clancy's 1999 murder conviction in the shooting death of David Buono at a Bronx pizzeria. Clancy was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. The judge adjourned the case Wednesday until June 13.
The adjournment comes after an eyewitness and a federal informant said that Clancy wasn't involved in the shooting. The Bronx district attorney is deciding what course of action to take next.
"[They could] retry, dismiss, appeal or ask for more time," said Clancy's attorney Ronald Kuby.
Buono's mother believes the DA got the right man the first time. "It's like seeing my son's grave open again," said an emotional Tammy Concepcion. She yelled out at Clancy after the hearing.
Clancy said he plans to get his life back on track and that he understands Concepcion's grief. "Eleven years she believed I did it," Clancy said. "It's going to take a long time to think otherwise."
