? Many Bronx and city seniors who own their homes will benefit from a new property tax rebate proposal announced Wednesday by the NYC comptroller.
City Aid for Senior Homeowners, or CASH, would allow for a $600 rebate on top of the $400 rebate. To be eligible, seniors must be 65 years or older, be the primary resident of their home or condominium and make $66,050 or less annually. The last requirement is the property tax bill must be more than $1,000 per year.
Seniors on fixed incomes feel the extra $600 would go a long way. Elected officials say seniors helped build New York City, so it is immoral to drive them out with high property taxes.
