? Health officials have given Bronx beaches the go ahead to open for the Memorial Day weekend. It?s a day many residents have been eagerly awaiting.
Several families showed up at Orchard Beach?s pre-opening Friday, despite cloudy skies and the threat of rain. Park officials expect up to 80,000 people will enjoy the Bronx beach on its busiest days this summer. Officials have had problems recruiting lifeguards, but say beaches are slated to stay open. Quality tests also show the water is safe.
Bronx beaches will remain open through Labor Day.
