High school students from Bridgeport held an Anti-Fourth of July rally and protest Saturday afternoon.
The young protesters marched from McLevy Green to Seaside Park.
The group demanded the city's Christopher Columbus statue be removed from the park and be placed in a different location that they feel would be more appropriate.
"Years ago when that statue was there, Black people were not free and Christopher Columbus came in and took over land that didn't necessarily belong to him, so it doesn't need to be here," says Naomi Dawkins.
Speakers at the rally also talked about what they say is a lack of representation in the Bridgeport Public School's curriculum.
"As someone who actually participated in Bridgeport Public School System, and the students that are there, they feel it doesn't reflect our people," says Bobbi Brown.
