Boy rescued from North Castle quarry

A Queens boy is recovering after he was rescued from a 25-foot fall off a cliff into a North Castle quarry. Police say the 10-year-old slipped and fell while hiking with his family at around 2:30 p.m.

A Queens boy is recovering after he was rescued from a 25-foot fall off a cliff into a North Castle quarry.
Police say the 10-year-old slipped and fell while hiking with his family at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cranberry Lake Preserve.
The boy's father, an emergency room doctor, tried to rescue his son and the family called 911. More than 24 first responders arrived to perform the challenging rescue. It took rescuers about 30 minutes to reach the boy. was overhead as the dramatic rescue unfolded.
"It was a tricky situation because of the height," said Westchester County Police Department Lt. James Luciano. "We had to use a rope rescue -- a technical rescue to retrieve the child up from the bottom of the cliff to get to the ambulance."
The boy was unconscious when police first arrived.
The boy, who suffered injuries to his face, back and arms, was taken to Westchester County Medical Center in stable condition.
