The man who went on a two-week robbery spree, terrorizing local businesses with claims that he had a bomb, was sentenced to 15 years in prison Monday.
David Wayne Britton, who had already served 14 years for robbery, received the new sentence at the White Plains County Courthouse. Britton could have faced 25 years behind bars, but was sentenced under a plea deal that also requires him to pay back more than $3,500.
"I apologize to the people who loved me and the state," Britton said in court. "Thank you for not throwing me away."
Britton was convicted of robbing fast-food restaurants, hotels and drug stores in Mount Pleasant, Greenburgh, Yonkers and other locations last fall. Authorities said he wore a bandage on his face and flares on his body, claiming they were bombs.
He was nabbed after leading police on a chase following the robbery of a Duane Reade pharmacy in Hartsdale. Cops found a BB gun and a briefcase full of cash in his possession.Britton's attorney said she hopes her client will focus once again on his acting gift. He has appeared on the TV show "Law and Order."
