News 12 has received new details about the rescue that was captured on body camera footage showing officers helping a group of people and a child escape from a house fire in Mount Vernon on Sunday.
Police said the rescue took place at 121 North Macquesten Parkway around 2:20 a.m.
Police said they responded to the location in under two minutes after they learned of the fire.
When they arrived, officers said they found a woman and a young girl screaming from a second-floor window.
Officials said a police sergeant and an officer went inside to rescue them but had to leave because they were met with heavy smoke and flames.
This is when the sergeant and the officer started climbing up the front porch to grab the young girl and bring her down to another officer who helped escort her away from the scene.
After this, officials said four more people still needed to be rescued.
So, the sergeant lifted an officer to the roof of the porch, before the sergeant himself was helped up there, by two other officers, so they could remove the rest of the people who were trapped.
Officials said a total of 12 officers helped out with the rescue.
It's unclear how the fire started, but police said all of the evacuees are safe and are receiving housing assistance.
