A bicyclist was struck and killed by a commuter bus in West Nyack Sunday.
The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m.
Officials say that a Tappan Zee Express bus was making a left hand turn from North Palisades Center Drive onto Route 303 when the bus collided with the bike.
The bike was ridden by Edward Brophy, of Congers. He was 77.
Brophy was a retired NYPD sergeant. He was an active hiker and bicyclist, as well as an avid musician, according to Seamus Gallagher, one of Brophy's friends.
Friends say he was also very active in his church, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockland.
The busy intersection where the collision occurred has had several accidents. The investigation is ongoing, according to a police spokesman.
