A crash on Route 6 in Mahopac Saturday night claimed the life of a beloved teacher's assistant.
State police say Fran Ghelarducci died Saturday night after dining at the Chophouse Grill with Steven Ghelarducci and Anna and Ernest Estrada.
As Anna Estrada was making a left hand turn, Richard O'Keefe's Dodge Caravan rammed into her Jeep, causing it to overturn with her three passengers inside.
O'Keefe is a well-known retired police officer. Troopers say he was drunk when they arrested him on vehicular homicide and DWI charges. He was arraigned at Southeast Town Court and released after posting $100,000 bond.
At Primrose Elementary School, an email was sent out to parents that says in part, "Mrs. G touched many of our students' lives at Primrose...we ask that you keep the Ghelarducci family in your thoughts and prayers."
Her funeral will be held Thursday at St. Joseph's Church in Somers.
