Family and friends said their final goodbyes Friday to a beloved teacher killed in a car crash in Yorktown.
Funeral services for Sister Barbara Heil were held at the Chapel of the Divine Compassion in White Plains. Cardinal Timothy Dolan consoled the community during the service.
Many people spoke to News 12 about Heil's tireless efforts at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers over the past 50 years.
"While this is a sad day, it is also a celebration of life. Parents, friends, even former students remember Sister Barbara for the love she shared with others through her entire life," said parent Mary Grosskopf.
Heil died in a two-vehicle collision last Friday on Route 6 in Yorktown. The crash also injured fellow nun Sister Marie Murphy, who is still hospitalized but off life support and speaking.
The driver of the other car has not been charged.
