Police are releasing new information about a crash in Goshen that claimed the life of a beloved hairdresser.
Samantha Turnbull, 34, was killed in a head-on collision on Route 17 Friday.
State police say Turnbull's vehicle was struck head-on when she was hit by a car driven by 21-year-old Alexandre Lavandero, from New Rochelle.
Authorities say Lavandero was traveling in the opposite direction when he lost control of his car and went over the median.
“I couldn’t believe it. It was just horrible,” said customer Tammy Godoy. “I didn’t even want to tell my daughter because she really liked her as a hairdresser."
Friends say Turnbull, who lived in Port Jervis, took Route 17 to get to work at Jessie D’Agostino's in Highland Mills and was headed there Friday when she was hit.
The salon issued a statement on Facebook saying their “hearts are broken.”
People who knew Turnbull commented with words of condolences to her husband and their two young children. Others shared photos of Samantha with their own children.
A GoFundMe page for her family has raised thousands of dollars in the days since the tragic loss.
State police say the other driver, Alexandre Lavandero, was seriously injured but is expected to survive.
The crash remains under investigation, but authorities say neither driver was found to be impaired in anyway.
