Yonkers police remain vigilant amid growing concerns over the terror group ISIS abroad and at home.
News 12 got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Yonkers Police Department and what it is doing to keep people safe.
While there is no specific threat regarding terrorist activity in Yonkers, officials say they are concerned because just a few miles down the Hudson River is New York City, a major potential terror target.
"We also have to be concerned about the collateral impact of a large-scale emergency or terrorist attack that may occur in the city of New York," says Commissioner Charles Gardiner.
Wearing full tactical gear, members of the Yonkers elite emergency services unit trained Thursday.
Everyone on the 50-man team is a certified EMT with knowledge of special weapons and chemicals.
The team will be deployed during next week's Yonkers Marathon, sweeping the course before the crowd arrives and keeping people safe - whether they know it or not.
