There's another major development deal other than Ridge Hill just getting started in the approval pipeline in Yonkers. It?s an ambitious $3 billion plan to transform the city's downtown.
Local developer Louis Cappelli has joined forces with two other nationally recognized builders. Their plan to revitalize the downtown area includes moving out some local shops in favor of national retailers and a 6,500-seat minor league baseball stadium surrounded by several towers, which would include 800 apartments.
Just like the Ridge Hill development project, this plan for the downtown is not without its detractors. Local shop owners are afraid they will be pushed out of business. Also, many believe the ballpark would not be successful in Yonkers and in turn hurt businesses. Cappelli says the project will be a development deal for everyone in the city.
