The borough's only Barnes & Noble has been spared from closing.
The bookstore had announced that it would close its location at the Mall at Bay Plaza in Co-op City by the end of the year after failing to come to a new lease agreement with Prestige Properties.
However, after negotiations between both sides over recent weeks, an agreement was finally reached to extend the store's current lease for the next two years.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and other community leaders were at the store Thursday to publicly announce the good news.
