A Rockland County judge agreed today to lower the bail for a teen accused of stabbing a fellow student at Spring Valley High School.
Christopher Bermeo, 16, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a schoolmate four times with a pen knife in the hallway of Spring Valley High School last week.
Bermeo's attorney says his client acted in self-defense after the other teen bullied him.
The judge reduced Bermeo's bail from $500,000 to $50,000. The judge also issued an order of protection for the alleged victim in the case.
School officials say Bermeo has been suspended and is not allowed on school grounds.
Bermeo is being tried as an adult in this case, and police say he is also a suspect in a robbery.
