A woman who was found dead in a Mount Vernon Police Department jail cell in July died of natural causes, according to an autopsy report.
Police transported Raynette Turner, a 42-year-old mother of eight, from her cell to a hospital two days after she was arrested for shoplifting. She had apparently become ill and required medical treatment. She died after returning back to her cell, police said at the time.
The autopsy, conducted by the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office, found that Turner had an enlarged heart and was a frequent user of cocaine and morphine.
The state attorney general's office has been investigating Turner's death, but had no comment on the report.
