Authorities: Port Jervis man faces 50 years for hitting teen in head with hammer
A Port Jervis man faces up to 50 years in prison for hitting an 18-year-old in the head with a hammer, according to authorities.
Authorities say 43-year-old Shawn Beach swung a hammer at a woman in Port Jervis last December.
They say the women's son rushed to her aid when Beach struck him in the head with a hammer, fracturing his skull.
The son was treated at Westchester Medical Center for life-threatening injuries but survived.
Beach has been convicted of all charges against him, including attempted murder and assault.
