A tribute to all who served during the Vietnam War is coming to the Hudson Valley.
The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, will be brought to the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Soccer Field in Middletown on Sept. 15.
The traveling exhibit honors the men and women who served and made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. That includes Medal of Honor recipient Cpl. Michael Crescenz, who at 19 ran into gunfire all on his own to silence enemy bunkers. His bravery cost him his life but allowed his company to complete its mission.
A new book about him, "No Greater Love," will be released in one week. News 12's Samantha Crawford, who filmed a documentary about Crescenz while in college, spoke with author John Siegfried about his incredible story.
"The book will impact the reader greatly because it's a kid that anybody could've grown up with," says Siegfried. "They were going up this ridiculously wet hill, and they were all pinned down and he said Michael just picked up a machine gun said, 'This is enough of this. I'm going to take care of my guys.'"
