Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and the Legislature chair are proposing to eliminate sales tax on clothing and shoes that cost less than $110.
The proposal first needs to be approved by the county Legislature and would then take effect in March 2022.
If it were to pass, there would be exceptions because there would still be sales tax on costumes and rented formal wear, jewelry and similar accessories and safety and athletic equipment.
"Dutchess County's finances, as identified by the county comptroller and the independent auditors, have clearly indicted we are in the strongest fiscal condition we have been in in generations and because we are, we are able to provide relief," said Molinaro.
