The city of Monroe is paying local artists to paint its very first mural to attract more visitors and beautify the town.
Three artists brought a wall to life in a little over a week by painting it in the style of a classic postcard.
"We've been getting amazing reactions. Every single person that walks by is like 'Oh my God, why are you guys doing this?' I think they're really shocked because there is no art down here so we're trying to revitalize what's going on," said Jordan Robinson.
The mural consists of six symbols -- one for each letter. The M is a movie theater like the one downtown; O is Village Hall, gifted by the Smith family who founded Monroe; N is a water wheel brought by the Smiths from Virginia; R is the town gazebo; O is a dam built by the first family; and E represents the school district.
Monroe Mayor Neil Dwyer says he hopes this mural is the first of many.
