A Westchester mother of two has launched a Facebook group to help parents struggling to entertain kids amid the coronavirus-related school closures.
The group, Elementary School Parents - at home social distancing activity ideas, was started on March 13 by Bonnie Waxman. She has two elementary-aged daughters who are out of school for a number of weeks.
“So many people would never in a million years think to homeschool their own kids,” says Waxman. "We've really used this as a way to capitalize on what they are interested in and expand that."
The Facebook group currently has more than 7,000 members across the country.
"Every time I think that we have everything that is possibly out there, somebody posts something new."
Some of the activities shared within the group include scavenger hunts, baking ideas and the discovery of online resources - such as live drawing class "Doodling with MO"
Some people are even learning new languages through the Duolingo website.
Waxman’s main advice for parents dealing with a similar situation is to take it one day at a time.
