The Ardsley school district is mourning the loss of former middle school special education teacher and curriculum leader Marisa Galloway, who was fatally shot in Manhattan last Friday.

The NYPD said Galloway, 45, was killed by her former mother-in-law as she placed a child's stroller in the back of her car. The shooter then killed herself.

Police said a child custody dispute between Galloway and her ex-husband was the apparent motive.

Galloway joined the Ardsley school district in 2012. She had been on leave of absence and resigned as of June 30 to spend more time with her two daughters.

In a statement, the school's principal said Galloway was "as good as they get in every way" and her "positive influence on our school and students will be remembered and greatly missed."

Galloway is survived by her two daughters.
