Former Yonkers Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett says seeing four NYPD officers shot, two fatally, in the last month has deeply affected him.
Hartnett, a former NYPD officer himself, says the tragedies moved him to turn his anger into action.
Along with this colleagues at the security firm Brosnan Risk Consultants, Hartnett says they have started a nonprofit called the Archangels NYPD Foundation to raise money for families of officers injured or killed in the line of duty.
'When a cop gets shot, we want to make sure their family knows we have their backs," he says.
So far, $80,000 has been raised, but Harnett say more money will be needed because the dangers of being a police officer never goes away.
