An appellate court ruling has upheld a lower court ruling that the term limits extension vote by the Yonkers City Council was legal.
This ruling upholds an extension to term limits for Yonkers City Council members and the mayor from three to four terms.
This is a major win for current Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano in his push to seek an unprecedented fourth term.
In the ruling, the appellate court found that any member of the general public can theoretically benefit from an extension of term limits and no candidate is guaranteed an election victory.
The lawyer who represents the plaintiffs in this term limits case says the case will most likely now head to the State Court of Appeals.
