Families were forced to temporarily leave their homes Monday after a fire ripped through the basement of their apartment building, leaving them without heat and electricity. 
Firefighters responded to the call of a fire on Davidson Avenue at around 11 a.m.
The Red Cross says it has been working to help 17 families find a place to stay.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
