New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo calls his father, Mario Cuomo, "the keynote speaker for our better angels."
Speaking at the funeral Tuesday for the former governor, Andrew Cuomo said his father was a philosopher, a poet an advocate and a crusader.
He added that the son of Italian immigrants drew his strength from being "always an outsider."
Cuomo delivered a eulogy for his father at St. Ignatius Loyola Church on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
The elder Cuomo died Thursday at age 82.
Andrew Cuomo thanked the doctors and health aides who cared for the former governor.
He also thanked Mario Cuomo's colleagues in government and at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, the law firm where Cuomo worked after losing re-election in 1994.
