American Red Cross calls for blood donations as winter weather intensifies national blood shortage

The American Red Cross says across the U.S. nearly 15,000 blood and platelet donations went uncollected so far in January.

Recent winter weather is intensifying an emergency blood shortage nationwide, including in New York state, according to the American Red Cross. 
The American Red Cross says across the U.S. nearly 15,000 blood and platelet donations went uncollected so far in January. 
Blood and platelet donors are now urged to donate to ensure lifesaving medical procedures are not delayed. 
There are several donation opportunities today through Feb. 7. in Westchester County. 
Yorktown Heights: 
  • 1/31/2024: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Keller Williams Realty, 57 US 6, Suite 104
  • 2/1/2024: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., St. Patrick's Church, 117 Moseman Road
  • 2/3/2024: 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Jefferson Valley Mall, 650 Lee Blvd
New Rochelle: 
  • 1/26/2024: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, Lawton Street
Scarsdale: 
  • 1/31/2024: 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., American Legion Hall, 40 Bell Road 
  • 2/1/2024: 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., American Legion Hall, 40 Bell Road
