An art display traveling around the boroughs that explores American tradition through sculpture and performance made a weekend stop in Brooklyn.
At Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 1 is a diorama-styled art display standing 14 feet tall, constructed out of a box truck.
"It sort of looks like a fantastical house," said the artist behind the display, Caledonia Curry, who is also known as Swoon. "There's a feeling of rooms, a feeling of families, and people sort of sharing space together."
The installation is part of a national public art initiative by PBS titled American Portrait, reflecting on what it means to be American today. The display fuses art and live performances, with actors telling stories of different American traditions.
The docuseries is based on more than 20,000 submissions from people all over the country telling their stories.
The next stop for the display is Prospect Park.
