A robbery attempt by a teenager with a toy gun has prompted a police sweep of toy stores in Mount Vernon.
According to police, a 13-year-old boy covered his face with a bandana and used a toy gun wrapped in electrical tape to try and rob Zhang's Garden restaurant on East Lincoln Avenue Monday night. Police say several of the workers managed to subdue the teen and hold him until cops arrived.
The next day, police conducted a sweep of more than 40 stores throughout the city to try and find businesses that may be selling realistic-looking toy guns, which is against the law in Westchester County. Police say they found three stores selling fake weapons. The storeowners were given tickets and must appear in court.
