An alleged drunken wrong-way driver was arrested today, blamed for a head-on collision on the Saw Mill Parkway.
Police say they received a 911 call at around 6 a.m. about a black Hyundai sedan traveling southbound on the northbound side of the parkway near Executive Boulevard in Yonkers. A motorist also flagged down a county police car to report the same information. By the time the officer caught up, the head-on crash had occurred.
Investigators say Francisco Herrera, 30, of the Bronx, traveled about a quarter-mile the wrong way on the northbound side before slamming head-on into a Subaru Legacy sedan. Cops say Herrera was drunk behind the wheel.
Police say the 55-year-old woman from Pennsylvania who was struck by Herrera only suffered a broken wrist along with bumps and bruises. She was taken to Westchester Medical Center and is expected to be OK.
Herrera has been charged with reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated.
