While the community continues to grieve a Hudson Valley mom killed in a head-on crash last week, the teenage daughter of the woman who caused the accident is offering her condolences and sharing her story of loss, as a victim too.
Breanna Schields, 19, was studying with college friends Friday night when she got the call from the hospital saying her mother had died.
Police say the Pine Bush teen's mom, Joann Schields, caused a head-on collision that killed a mother of three and injured two children during a police pursuit in Montgomery.
"My mom was my whole world … and now I'm literally left with nothing," says Schields.
While the community is hurting by her mother's alleged actions that remain under investigation – so is Breanna – who has no other surviving family.
"I feel like I've lost everything in my future, too," she says.
The teen is bravely picking up the pieces and planning her mother's funeral while applying for financial aid at school.
"My mom never got to graduate, and she did everything to make sure I would," she says.
A fundraiser on her Facebook page turns to strangers for compassion and help to get through some of the most difficult days ahead.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up for Bello's family.
