Community activists in Orangetown are filing a major lawsuit against the town's planning board.

They are fighting the board's controversial decision to allow a chemical manufacturer to set up shop in a residential neighborhood.

About two dozen activists and several elected officials from Orangetown and Clarkstown came together Monday night to say "no" to the chemical manufacturer Annellotech.

In April, the Orangetown planning board gave its approval for the company to expand its facility on the old Pfizer property in Pearl River.

The facility would be used to produce potentially hazardous chemicals, including Benzene, Tolulene, and Xylene - chemicals used in the production of consumer goods like plastic bottles, clothing, carpeting and automotive parts.
