It's been a tumultuous time for law enforcement the past several months -- yet one man is hoping to make a difference.
Sands Frost, Beacon Police Department's acting chief since July, hopes to become the next chief in the city he was born and raised in.
"I'd like to see everything run smooth with the police department and the community," he said. I think I can play a role with that. A big role."
He's also been with the department for 37 years.
"It's easier to police a community when the community trusts the police. And it's easier to police neighborhoods who want to work with you when crime does happen," he said.
On Monday, Mayor Lee Kyriacou and the city's police chief search committee both recommended Frost's acting position become a permanent one.
Among many reasons, they cited how Frost has worked with groups like Beacon for Black Lives Matter during this year's protests.
"A message for the residents is, we're here for you. We want to be working hand in hand as one," says Frost.
His final step is getting the nod from City Council. His next plan of action is to fill empty positions, work with Mental Health of America, and delve deeper into reforms that are already underway with the county as a partner.
