Firefighters are investigating a blaze that gutted an abandoned Elmsford house Wednesday. Officials say the fire started at around 1 a.m. on North Evarts Avenue. According to officials, the two-story building was abandoned and they don't know if squatters may have been staying inside.
Fire officials say it took up to 40 firefighters two hours to contain the blaze. Officials say it was a tough fire because the roof and second floor of the building collapsed onto the first floor.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire and say they don't yet know if it is suspicious or not.
Demolition crews are scheduled to knock down the façade of the structure later Wednesday.
