AAA Northeast is reminding residents to stay safe on Halloween, which is one of the most dangerous days for pedestrians of all ages.
News 12’s Kurt Semder spoke to Robert Sinclair Jr. from AAA Northeast about ways to minimize risks while enjoying the holiday.
Sinclair Jr. says drivers should is slow down, stick to main roads, avoid shortcuts and watch out for children in the street.

He also recommends that parents stay with their children while trick-or-treating.
“They should accompany them, some say up to age 12, probably even older is good. Be careful with the costumes, make sure they're not too long so they don't pose a tripping hazard. If they are dark in color, add a reflective tape or something like that to make them more visible. Advise children on the rules of the road, not to cross in between a block or between cars,” he said.
Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced that state and local police will be cracking down on impaired and reckless driving through Tuesday. In 2022, there were over 1,000 accidents and nearly 200 people arrested on DWI charges.
