A popular food store in Millwood is closing after more than two decades serving up delicious homemade Italian food.
The A&S Fine Food Store will close its doors for good come Sunday after 22 years in business. Regular customers were in disbelief upon hearing the news.
"I love their stuff, and they just started getting in prime meat, which is also delicious," said Barbara Friedman, a loyal customer.
Michael Competiello runs the franchise with several other family members.
"We need a break, my family and I -- we really needed a break," he said.
A combination of factors, from COVID-19 to rising prices on just about everything and competition from nearby DeCicco's Market brought the family to the decision.
"It's all factors at the end, just enough to make it very difficult to survive," Competiello said.
The biggest thing he'll miss about the store is his customers, he says -- "they become family after a while."
He hinted that it's not the end of their careers.
"If you see me in the food business, don't be surprised. Cause this is what we love."
