Voters in the 99th Assembly District may end up heading to the polls months after Tuesday, November 7.
A state Supreme Court judge issued an order Monday postponing the vote because of a legal battle over who should be on the ballot. Current Republican state Assemblyman Willis Stephens lost the primary to fellow Republican Greg Ball. Stephens recently sought to have his name removed from the Conservative and Independent parties on the ballot.
State Board of Elections officials say the postponement ruling could delay the election for up to four months. Democrat Ken Harper is fighting the delay. He says he doesn?t understand the mess the GOP has created and he says Stephens waited too long to have his name removed from the ballot.
The 99th Assembly District covers parts of Westchester, Dutchess and Putnam counties.
