Rita Callan, a 97-year-old from Nyack, is the oldest person to undergo a minimally invasive heart surgery called TAVR at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
The procedure fixed an issue she was having with her aortic heart valve by replacing it with an artificial one, and her doctors were able to do that through a small incision in her leg.
News 12 was told this method of treatment has a quick turnaround time, which meant Callan could go right back to the things she loves to do such as painting.
Good Samaritan is said to be the only hospital in Orange and Rockland counties to offer this type of heart surgery.
