Two Rye Middle School students have launched a campaign to collect books for their alma mater as they prepare for high school.
What started off as an eighth-grade reading assignment turned into a major campaign for Simone Fortin and Remi White.
"We are fortunate enough to go to Rye Middle School. I think everybody deserves to have a great education," says Simone.
The two launched the Spread Passion and Reading Knowledge Campaign, or SPARK, to collect 1,000 books for younger kids in the United States and the Caribbean. The girls make sure every book has a bookmark and message in it, and in return, they play a part in the education of future generations.
"It was a great feeling that we were really helping other people and it would really make a difference," they say.
Simone and Remi have also launched a website where anyone can buy a SPARK T-shirt and donate to their cause.
