80 Yonkers students to participate in March For Our Lives
Thousands of students and gun control advocates from across the U.S. are expected to descend upon the nation’s capital Saturday for the March For Our Lives.
The event was organized by the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School after an expelled student with an AR-15 killed 17 people and wounded more than a dozen others.
News 12’s Nadia Galindo was at Yonkers Montessori Academy where she spoke with students who are making the trip to Washington, D.C.
“There is no age limit to making change,” said Lormares Rodas. “It doesn't matter how old we are, how young we are, we have a voice."
Rodas is one of 80 students in the Yonkers Public School District that will be participating in the event.
They are demanding lawmakers pass more restrictive gun laws to prevent future mass shootings.
Rodas has been active in planning events since the shooting on Valentine’s Day. She is hoping to learn more about how to find a solution to the gun issue during the march.
"I think this is just the beginning of a process,” she said.
