A 71-year-old Village of Goshen man is accused of trading child pornography online, including videos and photos of children engaged in sexual activity with adults.
James Harris was charged with possession of a sexual performance by a child Tuesday, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
They say his online activity was flagged by their Digital Forensics Unit through the use of specialized investigative technology that flagged the transfer of these files and linked them to Harris.
Authority say a search warrant was executed at his residence and that phones, tablets, and a computer found to contain child pornography were discovered with the help of an electronic sniffing dog provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“Children are the most vulnerable and innocent victims,“ said District Attorney David Hoovler. “It requires the coordinated and dedicated efforts of law enforcement to track down child pornography that is possessed and disseminated in our community. I know that the resources allocated to the DFU are vital to assisting our local law enforcement partners in these complicated investigations. Those who choose to engage in this behavior should take heed that we will not cease in our pursuit of these crimes.“
Officials say Harris was released an appearance ticket, in accordance with New York State bail reform laws.
Anyone with information related to this case and Harris is asked to call the Village of Goshen Police department at 845-294-7988.
