A 7-year-old girl from Monsey died Wednesday morning after being struck by a school bus while attempting to cross in front of 182 Blauvelt Road in Monsey, according to Ramapo police.

"Tragically, she was killed in this crash," said Ramapo Police Officer William O'Connor.

Police said the bus driver is a 28-year-old man from Monsey. Authorities said he remained at the scene and has cooperated with investigators.

"There's no suspected alcohol or drug involvement, and there's no criminal charges being looked into at this time. Currently, the investigation is still underway. And we have no further information to provide at this time," O'Connor said.

Police also said that it does not appear that speed was a factor.

Authorities have not released the names of either the child or the bus driver.

O'Connor said a white Toyota that was at the scene was determined not to be involved in the incident.

Public information shows that the bus operator, Yeshiva Viznitz, of Monsey, had 76 bus inspections and five out-of-service inspections during the 2025-2026 state fiscal year.

Ramapo police said the school bus was being towed as part of the ongoing investigation.

A section of Blauvelt Road remained closed for several hours Wednesday while police investigated and then an organization, Chesed Shel EMES, also cleaned the scene in accordance with religious beliefs.

Family members arrived at the scene during the investigation and were visibly shaken by the loss. Police restrained a man identified at the scene as the child's grandfather.

A woman in the area who spoke with News 12 offered her condolences and described the girl's mother as diligent with her children and cautious around school buses.

In a statement, Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht said, "Our hearts are with the family during this terrible tragedy. Our police, traffic investigators, and accident reconstruction experts are conducting a thorough and ongoing investigation into the cause and circumstances. I'd like to thank the police, EMTs, and all who responded for their heroic efforts."

Services for the girl were held Wednesday afternoon.

This fatal crash is the third deadly incident involving a child and a vehicle in Ramapo that News 12 has reported on this year.

In January, a 5-year-old boy died after being struck by a bus in New Square.

Last month, an 8-year-old girl died after being hit by a truck while riding her bicycle in Pomona.
