Five people escaped a fire that tore through a home in Yorktown Heights early Friday morning.
Firefighters say they arrived at the home at around 2:30 a.m. Once on the scene, located at 2848 Springhurst St., firefighters say they saw flames erupting through the roof and out the front window.
Four family members - a mother, father and their two sons - along with a family friend, were inside the home and managed to get out ahead of the flames.
Yorktown Fire Chief Martin McGannon says the fire was fast-moving and destructive.
?The fire appeared to have started at the back of the house and progressively worked up into the attic,? says McGannon.
Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, Mcgannon says the damage was so extensive that the reason may never be determined.
