Three people from Yonkers are among 11 people facing federal charges in a multi-million dollar scheme to evade tolls and traffic tickets.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Jefrey Raphel Herrera Espinal, Sammy Rodriguez Francisco and Clarisa Rodriguez are among those arrested this month in connection with the case.

From about June 2017 through March 2024, prosecutors say the group used fraudulently obtained temporary license plates, or temp tags, to avoid vehicle registration fees, tolls, parking enforcement and traffic enforcement.

As part of the scheme, the group created a series of companies by obtaining used motor vehicle dealer licenses, then used them to create more than 100,000 temp tags.

Police say those tags were also involved in at least 1,200 incidents, including at least six homicides.

The group now faces wire fraud and access device fraud charges.

The three people from Yonkers are set to appear in White Plains federal court at a later date.
