Police discovered three young children living in squalor after they raided a Mount Vernon home Wednesday.
Authorities say neighbors complained constantly about the state of the home at 26 13th Ave. The early morning raid was just one part of a month long investigation by Mount Vernon police. Upon entering the home, officers discovered three young children, ages 6 months to 4 years, living among garbage and feces and without heat, electricity or hot water.
The property surrounding the home was also covered in piles of garbage. Neighbors say the level of trash inside the home is visible through the windows.
Police also found a loaded .32 revolver, drugs and five pit bulls. Cops arrested 19-year-old Mark Ogilivie, 16-year-old Joseph Ogilivie and 20-year-old Gladstone Dankin. According to authorities, the three men had many previous run-ins with the law. Dankin was released Wednesday evening, but police say he has been arrested six other times and has four misdemeanors.
The three children were taken into protective custody.
