Three people were sent to the hospital after a fire in Mount Vernon on Tuesday.
Fire officials say the flames broke out yesterday afternoon at a home on Villa Street.
They say the fire was a difficult to put out because the fire had such a head-start on first responders.
Sources tell News 12 multiple departments worked to help everyone escape. "I had to look around the house to see if anyone's there. I didn't see anything and that's when the police department, they came in, and actually went inside, and they were the first ones to get somebody out," says neighbor Pedro Badia.
Neighbors say the home is owned by a husband and wife who allow elderly people with disabilities to live there. The conditions of the victims are unknown at this time.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
