The Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center in Yonkers is set to open its new $24 million addition next month.
The additional wing will allow for the care of 169 children, most of whom will call the center home for many years. Most of the patients are in need of machines, such as ventilators, to survive.
"These children are currently living out of state from their families. They're New York residents but because New York didn't have enough beds, they had to live away from home. We're bringing them back home," says Brian Harrington, the senior vice president of Institutional Advancement.
The addition of the newest wing will make Elizabeth Seton the largest children's sub-acute care center in the country.
