3ds agoWestchester County Executive George Latimer unveiled his proposed operating budget for 2024, totaling $2.4 billion.
Notably, the plan advocates for a 0% increase in the property tax levy.
The budget allocates resources toward various critical areas, including:
- Addressing issues related to racism and LGBTQ hate
- Enhancing health care and mental health services
- Promoting affordable housing
- Implementing environmental initiatives to combat challenges like flooding and climate change.
Latimer emphasized that while this budget paints a positive outlook for Westchester, the County Legislature does not stand alone in decision-making.
Latimer stated, "The state budget processes that lie ahead present challenges. The state anticipates facing a budget gap in the initial 2024 to 2025 budget, which they had initially aimed to close by April 1st. The decisions they make to bridge this gap may have significant implications for our county."
He further pointed out that policies might experience shifts at the beginning of 2025 if a new president assumes office.
