Roughly 3,000 runners and walkers turned out Sunday for the 10th annual Running with the Devils 5K Run & Walk.
RWJBarnabas Health and the New Jersey Devils hosted the event at Essex County’s South Mountain Recreation Complex. The course looped around the Orange Reservoir, as local team mascots and Devils alumni cheered on participants along the way.
Proceeds from the event will go toward RWJBarnabas Health programs and services across the state, including cancer care, children’s health, behavioral health services, heart and vascular care, emergency medicine and neurosciences.
RWJBarnabas Health President and CEO Mark Manigan said the event has continued to get bigger every year.
“Ten years strong. The first one, there were 250 people here. Now there’s over 3,000,” Manigan said. “We’ve raised collectively over the 10 years about $1 million that we’ve plowed right into community health initiatives across the state.”
