About 500 students at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield participated Saturday on the Walk to End Alzheimer's.
The campus was covered with "promise garden flowers" in honor of people who live with dementia, their caregivers and those who died from the disease.
Many of the students also honored their grandparents who they say are living with Alzheimer's.
"I walk for my grandmother, Fran York. She is going through Alzheimer's right now. She is one of my biggest heroes," said Sacred Heart University student Chelsea Perez. "She has honestly shown me what it means to be alive."
The students have raised $11,000 so far for the Alzheimer's Association.
